avocado/banana hair mask : deep conditioning with nature's ingredients

IMG_7430

Why didn't I do this sooner? My hair has been so thirsty after this winter, and it's very obvious. My ends were in dire need of some hydration and repair, so, I looked around my kitchen to see what I had. Luckily, I had 1 very ripe avocado and 1 even riper banana - Perfecto!

What You'll Need:

  • 1/2 an avocado

  • 1/2 a banana

  • 1 heaping spoonful of honey

  • (optional) 3 drops of your favorite essential oil... I used lavender!

Mash all of the ingredients together (or even better, blend until you get a smooth and whipped texture). VERY IMPORTANT: Use a strainer with tiny holes (what you might use to sift powdered sugar). If you do not strain the mixture, you'll get bits of banana pulp left in your hair (oops...trial and error).

How to Apply:

  • Rinse your hair in warm water to open up the hair cuticles.

  • Towel dry your hair.

  • Massage the mixture into your hair.

    • I started from the ends and worked up through the scalp

    • Twist hair into a high bun and add the rest of the mixture to cover the bun and scalp.

    • Cover hair with a shower cap (or saran wrap works too!)

    • If you have the time... pop in a movie, and let it sit for 45 minutes. Otherwise, 15-20 minutes should work as well.

    • When the time is up, rinse out your hair and wash with shampoo and conditioner like you normally would.

This is an inexpensive and healthy way to rejuvenate your hair - Repeat this once a month, or if your hair really needs it, twice a month. Cheers to shiny, healthy hair!
