Sustainable Swaps in My Mindful Home + My Favorite Eco Content Creators
Everyone will approach sustainability differently, but I’ve found what works best for me is to adopt small habits that I can actually integrate and sustain for the long haul. So, rather than focusing on doing everything perfectly and 'failing', I like to look at it as an ongoing journey. We’re probably not going to get it right 100% of the time. And to me, that’s OK because once we learn something, we can move forward with that knowledge and strive to do better.
In this video, I’m sharing 10 sustainable swaps that have helped me reduce waste, some of which don’t cost a thing or have ended up saving me money. I’m in no way the gold standard, but I love sharing my journey with you. I’m always aiming to do better while continuing to learn new things and unlearn old habits.
I hope this helps you incorporate some simple n’ sustainable changes in your own home. Just remember, every little bit counts! Doing something consistently - whether it’s big or small - is almost always better than doing something perfectly for only a short period of time. Enjoy the process and be sure to celebrate the positive changes along the way!
10 of my fave sustainable content creators:
Green Girl Leah - I've been reading + sharing articles from The Good Trade for a couple of years now, and little did I know, some of my favorite articles were written by Leah Thomas. I only recently connected the woman to the words, and she's been such an inspiring gal to follow to learn more on the intersection of social justice and environmentalism.
Brown Girl Green - Kristy’s content is at the intersections of media, diversity, and environmentalism. Her insta is filled with super educational infographics - such as this actionable post on fighting plastic pollution in rural communities.
Shelbizleee - I’ve been watching Shelbi’s videos on YouTube for about a year now. I love her videos and how her content is super approachable. One of my favorite videos of hers is 15+ Free Things You Can Do Today to Help the Planet.
Elana Jadallah - Elana is a friend of mine and a total ray of sunshine. She's a photographer, marketing strategist, educator, and environmental advocate. Based in Hawaii and Maine, her account is a mix of travel, life + biz musings, beautiful snaps, and a big focus on sustainability. She'll leave ya feeling both inspired and empowered.
Bottega Zero Waste - I first discovered Marta on TikTok! You have to check those out first, but then make sure to dive into her YouTube. She is the queen of soap making and even has her own soap making course!
Lavendaire - Aileen’s YouTube channel is one of my top favorites. She focuses mostly on personal growth + lifestyle, but she does discuss sustainability and minimalism which tend to go hand in hand. I’ve been watching her videos for years, and it’s never short of beautiful knowledge and inspiration.
Sustainably Sage - Georgette actually lives not that far from me, and I feel like we’d be great friends. I’m determined to meet her when it’s safe to do so again. Definitely check out her Instagram for super inspiring low-waste living inspiration.
Alivia Fields - Alivia’s content is visually soothing and inspiring. I love her social presence, seeing her new home adventures, and learning more about the sustainable brands she loves. Her site also has some mindful travel guides that I’ve been caught perusing if I’m feelin’ wanderlust-y!
Sedona Christina - Christie shares great tips on intentional living, and I love her authentic message of being imperfectly low waste. This hair care video is next on my watchlist, because I’m also looking to make the switch to shampoo + conditioner bars.
Weylie Hoang - Weylie was one of the FIRST YouTubers I ever followed probably 7 years ago. I saved her for last, because I’m forever a fan of her and how she has evolved over the years. She launched a beautiful, sustainable, and small-batch clothing brand with her friend Sophie called WOMN, and I absolutely love it.
