ATX Event Recap: Earth Month Hike with Athleta
Woo, what a weekend! In honor of Earth Day, I partnered with my eco-lovin’ Athleta fam to lead a hike along the greenbelt here in Austin, TX! It was a gorgeous day with an even more wonderful turnout. Every human who attended was so kind. I am very grateful for how social media has given us the opportunity to take our online connections and connect even deeper in real life. I met A LOT of gals who just recently moved here from places like Chicago, Seattle, NYC, Oregon, and Mexico! We chatted about ALL the things from sustainability and the power of our choices to being a dog mom and life in Austin.
Athleta’s Growth, Activism, and Sustainable Milestones
I’ve hosted many events with Athleta over the years in both NYC and Austin, but there’s just something truly magical about getting outdoors and lettin’ nature bring people together. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that Athleta was the FIRST activewear brand I ever worked with on my blog, and it’s been an honor to witness their growth, activism, and efforts towards sustainability.
As of today, 60% of Athleta’s materials are made from sustainable fibers. Their goal is to hit 80% by 2020. In addition, they are a certified B Corporation, which means they meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, and they aspire to use the power of the markets to solve social and environmental problems. As someone who has a background in fashion, I know how incredibly hard it is to make these changes, especially at a company as large as Athleta. Change like this takes TIME, MONEY, RESEARCH, and it’s not black or white. I applaud Athleta for accomplishing what they have so quickly. Although, I’m sure it feels like a long time coming for those spearheading this behind-the-scenes. I’m a proud partner, what can I say.
