My Trip to Ogunquit, Maine
Maine is a destination that’s been on my list to visit one day, so when Visit Maine reached out, I was excited for the opportunity to finally see what it’s all about. Our 3-day trip with Visit Maine focused on exploring the charming town of Ogunquit. I had never heard of this town before, and I admit it took me a full 12 hours to properly say 'Ogunquit'. All I knew going into this trip was that I wanted to eat my bodyweight in lobster. I can happily say mission accomplished!
I brought my friend (and photographer pro) Hannah Haston along as my travel buddy and to help me capture this beautiful place. All photos in this post are shot by Hannah! Lobster aside, there was also a lot of seaside charm, healthy(ish) eats, and postcard views. It was definitely a change of pace from Austin, but it pushed me to really slow down and soak it all in.
If you’re looking for a low-key, scenic getaway, Ogunquit would be a charming destination to add to your list. I recommend staying somewhere on Shore Road, so you can easily walk to all the shops and restaurants. We stayed at the Beachmere Inn, which is about a 10-minute walk to downtown Ogunquit.
Things to Do:
Take a stroll down the pleasant Shore Road to explore the shops and restaurants in downtown Ogunquit.
Walk the Marginal Way for gorgeous postcard views of the Gulf of Maine.
Wake up for sunrise yoga on Ogunquit Beach with Jennifer Walker. She’s a sweetheart.
Explore Perkins Cove and see the harbor, adorable shops, and overlook points.
Take your pick of homemade chocolate goodies at Perkins Cove Candy.
Pop over to Front Porch for a drink & to hear people sing show tunes!
Book a Forest Bathing session with Maine Coast Explorers (Don’t forget to wear mosquito & tick repellent!)
Take a ferry to see Nubble Lighthouse for incredible views.
Places to Eat:
Loveshack Juicery - Grab a Maine Maple Latte or a green smoothie bowl (I had both!).
The Trap - Great lunch spot. Eat a lobster roll, and if you’re gluten-free, they have GF bread options for ya!
Five-Oh - When in Maine, get the catch of the day! I unapologetically ate fish for this entire trip. It’s a must. So fresh.
Scoop Shack - It’s the sister shop of Loveshack Juicery. They have both dairy & vegan ice cream, so it’s the best of both worlds for all kinds of ice cream lovers.
MC Perkins Cove - It was named "top ten places in the world with a view" by USA Today. The fries were massive and the view was even grander.
Honorable Mentions:
Cove Cafe - We sadly didn’t have a chance to eat here, but it was highly recommended to us. They are known for their charm and tasty brunch. Make sure you check their hours as they close early. We missed the cut-off.
That Place - This is another spot recommended to us that happened to be closed on the day we tried to visit. Be sure to check the hours before you go!
So that’s a wrap on trip! I’ve been floored at how many messages I received from y'all saying you grew up there, you spent your summers there, you hope to one day buy a beach house there... I love that I got to explore and share this pretty little town that means a lot to so many of you! Hope you’ve enjoyed this quick recap. I’m so glad I had Hannah there to share the memories with me and make it even more of an adventure. All of the photos you’ll see from this trip were taken by her, so be sure to give her some love on Insta (@hanhaston).
