Hello, lovely people! I had the awesome pleasure of chatting with Alyssa McGarry, founder of Hiptipico. This is a brand you NEED to know (if you don't already). Hiptipico is a socially-conscious fashion brand based in Panjachel, Guatemala. With my passion for socially-conscious consumerism and love for Spanish culture, it is obvious why this gypsy goddess brand struck a chord with me.

BACKGROUND:Hiptipico was founded in 2012 by McGarry with a mission to support the creativity, ingenuity and passion of local Mayan artisans. Hiptipico reinvests profits into women's cooperatives, family shops and Mayan handicrafts, while reaching global markets and energizing the local economy. From promoting Mayan weaving techniques and embroideries to repurposing discarded fabrics, the authenticity and artisan-level product goes beyond.

Q: What inspired to you to start Hiptipico?A: Watch our video "The Hiptipico Story". It all started when I was already living and working in Guatemala when I met a street vendor named Maria....

Q: Quote that you live by?A: "Don't be eye candy, be soul food." “Every time you spend money, you're casting a vote for the kind of world you want.”

Q: Favorite product from Hiptipico and why?A:Sanik Beaded Clutch. The women makers of this clutch are the absolute most innocent and humbling humans I have ever met. Their craft is so detail-oriented and their hands hold so much value. They place the beads one by one, memorizing the pattern and creating impeccable designs.

Q: What are you listening to these days?A: The brother-sister duo, Rodesha and Conkarah, from Jamaica who covered Adele's “Hello” reggae style!!!

Q: Tips for overcoming fear and going after your passions?A: Don't wait - Don't question your instincts, just go with your gut.
