The Om Home: Our Multi-Purpose Guest Room
Drum roll, please… the last room in our house is FINALLY ready to reveal! Welcome to our multi-purpose guest room… come stay awhile! We bought our house in May 2019 (less than a year ago), so you’re right to assume I’m not one to “take my time” with furnishing a space. I personally thrive off of sprints - I like to hit pedal to the metal and get it all done at once, and then relax n’ retreat in my new space.
Designing this guest room was very, very tricky. It is a small room that needs to serve multiple purposes, and we didn’t have much flexibility on the room layout. It took a lot of patience to figure out juuust the right pieces to best serve the space. Once again, I teamed up with Erika Dale from Decorist (@decoristofficial), who helped us get the job done!

Here’s a snapshot of what we wanted to accomplish:
Comfortably host two guests in this room.
Store all of our additional towels and linens.
Create a flex hobby workspace for Andrew’s gaming and my sewing.
With that said, we knew we wanted to optimize the space as much as possible, so we opted for an Ikea Daybed that slides out into a king-sized bed, and it has two drawers built in (yay, more storage!). We have two 5” mattresses stacked on top of each other with a deep twin-sized linen sheet that covers both mattresses when it’s stacked up in daybed-mode. This entire bed set up is pretty epic. Though, I’ll be honest, it’s a headache to put together (but what Ikea furniture isn’t, eh?).
We also wanted to have an organized storage space for additional linens and towels, so we purchased this rattan cabinet from Target. For both the cabinet and the daybed, we upgraded the hardware to elevate the style while still staying within budget. All of the gold hardware is linked in this post!
I also want to shoutout to Jan Skacelik, the talented artist behind our statement artwork over the bed. How beautiful, right? We worked with Framebridge to get it these two 24x36 pieces framed, and the entire process was so simple. I’m looking forward to framing more art for the house!

Let’s take a tour of the room, shall we?
We are so happy with how it turned out! You can watch the room tour video HERE. Out of the few guests we’ve had stay in the finished room so far, the feedback has all been very positive. I absolutely love hosting, and it brings me so much joy to make our guests feel right at home. It also helps having such cozy sheets n’ pillows thanks to Parachute! We’re very loyal Parachute fans, and only have linen sheets in this home. It’s an unexpected, but game-changing investment. Not to mention, linen is one of the most sustainable and breathable fabrics you can own.
We want our friends and family to feel like they have a space to get some work done, take a nap, read a book, meditate, or even pop out onto our balcony for some fresh air. Despite it being a small room, it really does serve all of its functions.
Obviously, Andrew and I share a room, but sometimes I wish it were my room, haha! We plan on doing a fun lil family slumber party in there one night just because. Luna loves sleeping in there too.
