I don't know about you, but everyone around me is sick. I cannot escape it. Co-workers are sick, subway riders are sick... and if anyone takes the L train, you understand how impossible it is to avoid germs on that crazy packed train.

I am finally getting over a pretty gnarly head cold/sinus infection. Now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I wanted to share with you some tips for speeding up the healing process. If you're like me, you also do not like to take medicine unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. I want my body to have a fair shot at fighting it before I resort to a quick fix.

I can honestly say, these methods will work if you are diligent and consistent.

5 DRUG-FREE METHODS TO FIGHT A NASTY COLD

  1. OilofOregano: I was introduced to this by my yogi friend in Nicaragua, and now it is my go-to when I feel a funk coming on. Oil of Oregano contains a compound called carvacrol that kills bacteria and helps the immune system fight viruses, parasites, and fungi.

    • Take 3-4 drops 2-3 times daily until you feel better.

    • Have a glass of water handy to chase it or you can dilute it with water. I personally think it tastes like spaghetti, so I don't mind it. **Pro-tip:aim for the back of the throat to avoid tasting it too much on the tongue.

  2. HerbalZap!: Developed by Ayurvedic doctors - Imagine it as the better Emergen-C. It is non-GMO, vegan, sustainable produced, gluten-free, and kosher with 14 different herbal extracts. It dissolves in water and tastes rather good!

  3. WellnessFormula: These look like horse pills, but they are filled with tons of ingredients that will help you recover. Includes garlic, elderberry, and cayenne fruit to name a few.

  4. Humidifier: I caved, and bought a humidifier. I purchased the Zornado, and so far I enjoy it. It moistens the air in my apartment, and has helped break up the mucus deep inside my nose and throat. You gotta get all of that out anyways....

  5. Sleep: ...but, you already knew this. Stop being a workaholic, cuddle up in your bed, and go to bed early.

Stay healthy and let's make a pact to not skip yoga this coming week! :)
